
An overnight fire in an apartment building in the 8100 block of Southwest Barnes Road in unincorporated Washington County has hospitalized eight people and displaced dozens, according to Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue.
Multiple people called 911 shortly after 3 a.m. Saturday to report flames coming from the apartment building. Deputies from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and firefighters responded, finding flames coming through the building’s windows, roof and stairwell. Firefighters rescued seven people and multiple pets.
Eight people were transported to the hospital. Some were injured while jumping from the second floor of the building to escape the fire and some suffered from smoke inhalation and burns, according to the fire department. Also, one firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion.
Multiple units inside the building were damaged, and about two dozen people are displaced.
The sheriff’s office and fire investigators are working to determine what caused the fire.
