When Armando Gonzales and Elizabeth Perry first opened their Día de los Muertos celebration to the public, they hosted it in a family member’s hair salon. Now, 15 years later, hundreds gathered at Portland’s St. Andrew Catholic Church to celebrate the Day of the Dead with the family.
“I think for all of us, it’s a way to remember that we have a strong and rich tradition,” Perry said. “Death is a celebration of the unification of our family. We’re not separated; they’re here with us.”
