Freshmen Grace VanSlooten, Jennah Isai lead Oregon women’s basketball in blowout of Northwestern

Oregon’s newcomers made an impressive debut in a blowout of a Power 5 opponent.

True freshmen Grace VanSlooten and Jennah Isai had 20 and 17 points, respectively, to lead four players in double-figures for the No. 20 Ducks in a 100-57 win Monday afternoon at Matthew Knight Arena.

VanSlooten was 10 of 16 from the field and scored six in each of the first three quarters. She’s the first Oregon freshman to score 20 points since Te-Hina Paopao had 22 against Oregon State on Dec. 13, 2020. Now a junior, Paopao had 15 points, six rebounds and three assists on Monday.

Oregon built a 21-7 lead in the first quarter and was able to cruise.

Caileigh Walsh scored seven of her 15 points and six rebounds in the second quarter for Northwestern, which trailed 50-27 at halftime.

Isai scored nine points in the third. She went 3 of 6 from the floor and 9 of 10 at the free throw line.

Fellow freshman Chance Gray scored eight of her 14 points in the fourth.

UO’s fourth freshman, Kennedy Basham, had two points and three rebounds and left with a right knee injury and did not return.
