Man fatally shot near MAX transit line beside Portland’s Holladay Park

A man was fatally shot near the MAX transit line bordering Holladay Park in Northeast Portland on Friday afternoon, police said.

Officers were called to the 1100 block of Northeast Holladay Street at 4:21 p.m.

North Precinct officers found a man wounded. He was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. One or more suspects fled the scene, police said.

Investigators scoured the southwest corner of the park for potential evidence into Friday evening.

No arrests had been reported as of Friday night in what marks the 81st homicide in the city this year.

The Portland Police Bureau canceled officers’ days off Friday to ensure there were enough police available to handle the traffic and security for President Joe Biden’s arrival to the city.

In a separate shooting across town, a police officer shot and wounded a man in downtown Portland. The shooting was reported at 6:07 p.m. at Southwest 12th Avenue and Jefferson Street. The man shot was expected to survive, according to police. A mobile command center was set up along Southwest 12th Avenue as detectives and forensic criminalists arrived to investigate.
