Man’s suspicious death in NE Portland now under investigation as homicide

A man’s suspicious death in Northeast Portland is now under investigation as a homicide, Portland police said Wednesday.

James Orlando Harris, 54, died by unspecified homicidal violence, police said in a statement.

Police originally reported that they had found a person’s body about 6:30 p.m. Sunday in the 100 block of Northeast Marine Drive when called to investigate what they described only as suspicious circumstances.

Eighty people have been killed so far this year in Portland, most in shootings. The city is on pace to exceed last year’s record 92 homicides.

Police ask anyone with information about Harris’ killing to contact Detective Joe Corona at or 503-823-0508, or Detective Jennifer Hertzler at or 503-823-1040, and reference case number 22-271682.
