The Memphis Grizzlies defeated the Portland Trail Blazers 111-106 Wednesday night at the Moda Center.
Desmond Bane finished with 29 points, eight rebounds and five assists and Ja Morant added 20 points, nine rebounds and seven assists for the Grizzlies (5-3), who ended a two-game losing streak.
Anfernee Simons recorded 31 points and eight assists and Jusuf Nurkic had 23 points and 13 rebounds for the Blazers (5-2), who played without injured All-Star Damian Lillard (calf strain).
It looked like the Grizzlies would coast to a lopsided win after they scored the first nine points of the fourth quarter to take a 15-point lead lead. But the Blazers, who were playing the finale of a four-game home stand, refused to roll over.
With Simons swishing threes, Keon Johnson converting driving layups and the Blazers’ defense forcing steals, Portland used a 19-2 run to tie the game 98-98 with 3:39 left. The teams exchanged baskets and free throws to keep the game tied at 100-100 with 2:44 left and, stunningly, it seemed like the outcome would go down to the wire.
Instead, the Grizzlies took over from there, outscoring Portland 11-4 to earn a hard-fought road victory.
