The Portland State Vikings avoided a shutout with a late touchdown, but FCS No. 6 Weber State rolled to a 42-7 victory Saturday afternoon in front of 4,067 at Hillsboro Stadium.
Bronson Barron threw three touchdown passes to lead the Wildcats, who won their eighth game in a row in Jay Hill’s 100th game as coach. The Wildcats have won eight consecutive road games and haven’t lost since falling to the Vikings 30-18 last season in Ogden, Utah.
Dante Chachere’s 12-yard touchdown pass to Mataio Talalemotu with 6:18 left put the Vikings (2-4, 1-2 Big Sky Conference) on the scoreboard and marked the first fourth-quarter points Weber State (6-0, 3-0) has allowed this season.
Barron threw scoring passes to Haze Hadley, Hayden Meacham and a 55-yarder to Jacob Sharp. Dontae McMillan, Damon Bankston and Steven Shoats-Thomas added rushing touchdowns. Brown threw for 274 yards and was intercepted once.
Chachere threw for 167 yards with an interception for the Vikings.
Weber State outgained Portland State 553-236, with the Wildcats’ defense forcing seven Portland State punts and stopping the Vikings all three times they went for it on fourth down.
