A pair of young Colombian players from the Portland Timbers have earned a chance to compete with their top-level countrymen next week.
Midfielder Santiago Moreno and defender Juan David Mosquera were called in for October training camp with the Colombian men’s national team on Friday, and will join the senior squad from Oct. 18-20 in Barranquilla, Colombia.
It marks the first call-up for Mosquera, 19, who joined the Timbers on transfer from Colombian side Independiente Medellín in August. Moreno, 22, joined the national team for camp once before in February 2021 and has emerged as a budding star and key player for the Timbers. Moreno had seven goals and eight assists in 34 matches for Portland this season, leading the team in points (22).
