The Trail Blazers’ win Friday at New York snapped a four-game losing streak that began at home against the Brooklyn Nets, Sunday’s noon opponent.
A win would send the Blazers home at 12-8, which would be a lot better than where they appeared to be headed after losing five out of six games before defeating the Knicks.
But this time around against Nets, the Blazers must contend with guard Kyrie Irving. He didn’t play during his team’s win at Portland because he was serving a suspension. Now back in the lineup, Irving fills out the team’s trio of star players who make the Nets formidable.
However, that has mostly been a theory to this point. The Nets, who also feature Kevin Durant and Ben Simmons, possess more star power than just about every team in the league yet sit with a net rating of minus-0.04, which ranks 17th in the N BA. Portland’s net rating of zero ranks 16th.
Based on those numbers, both teams have been pretty average to date with the Blazers having pulled out a few more victories to date.
Still, it’s justifiable that the Nets are favored. The Blazers will be without their lone former All-Star, Damian Lillard while the Nets will have three former All-Stars in the lineup.
Then again, the Nets lost on Tuesday at a Philadelphia team that didn’t have Joel Embiid or James Harden in the lineup.
