The Portland Trail Blazers return home to host the San Antonio Spurs after a six-game trip that saw them go 4-2.
The Blazers enter Tuesday tied for first place in the Western Conference after getting off to a start that many didn’t see coming. But is it sustainable. Damian Lillard thinks so.
“In the past, when we’ve done this, we got on a hot streak,” Lillard said. “We just got on a run. It was a matter of when was it gonna go out. And I think this time, we could be playing so much better, but we’re finding a ways to win.”
The offense is where the team could improve most. The Blazers ranked sixth in defensive rating (111.3) but 13th in offensive rating (113.3). Not bad but this is a franchise used to lighting up the scoreboard.
The Blazers are shooting the ball well. They are hitting on 46.9% from the field (13th) and 38.7% on threes (fourth). Turnovers have been a big issue costing the team possessions. Portland ranks 25th in turnovers allowed (16.2) and 24th in points per game (109.3).
The Blazers should have a big offensive night against San Antonio. The Spurs rank 27th in defensive rating (116.01) and have surrendered 118.8 points per game, second most in the NBA.
Plus, the Spurs will be playing the second of a back-to-back after playing Monday night at Golden State.
