It has been said that perfect is the enemy of good enough. Portland has a dysfunctional city council – that is an undisputed fact. The proposed new city council restructure may not be perfect, but it is good enough and provides a far better system than we currently have.
Establishment brokers are encouraging voters to cast a no vote on the hope of a better proposal, maybe next year. But a no vote maintains the status quo, which we know is broken. It kicks the can down the road in the hopes of a more perfect proposal than has been offered.
It’s time for change. Portland needs a functional government, now. Portlanders should vote yes for the new, more representative, and more functional city council structure.
