Readers respond: Voters fooled by Measure 114

It’s a sad day in Oregon to see how many ignorant and uninformed people have voted yes on measures that should have been a resounding “no” vote. Today, I’m addressing just Measure 114.

The five biggest financial contributors to the “yes” vote on Measure 114 are based out of state, (“Which billionaire’s family is helping fund Oregon’s gun control ballot measure?,” Nov. 7).

People pushing the “yes” vote outspent opponents 10-1 and yet the measure passed by less than two percentage points. This was an agenda of non-Oregonians deciding our future, just as they have been doing with politicians for years.

To those who blindly voted for it, shame on them for not doing their homework. Shame on the media for biased reporting and being part of the ignorance. It will be found wholly unconstitutional, marginalizes people of color and the poor, will not reduce violence and will be overturned by the courts at taxpayer expense. Oregon’s economy is struggling and when the measure becomes law these folks will have participated in putting several small businesses out of business, curtailing the profits of many other businesses and causing hundreds to lose their jobs. At least we now have a number on how many clueless people voted “yes.”
