No. 1-seeded Salem Academy rolled through the OSAA Class 2A volleyball state tournament and finished the job with a five-set (25-15, 25-20, 16-25, 22-25, 15-12) win over No. 2 Monroe in the championship game on Saturday night at Ridgeview High School.
The Crusaders looked poised to run through the championship match, taking a 2-0 lead after two sets. Prior to Saturday, Salem Academy hadn’t lost a set in the whole playoffs (their last loss in a set was on Oct. 13 against Willamina).
Monroe battled back in the third and fourth set to tie up the game. But it was Salem Academy coming through with the big win in the fifth set to take the state championship for the second year in a row.
