Weekend weather: Record high temperatures expected in the Portland area

After a cool start to the morning, many areas in the Willamette Valley are expected to see temperatures in the 80s today. The hazy, warm weather will continue Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

The record high for Oct. 15 in Portland was set in 2015 at 80 degrees. Forecasters expect today’s high to reach about 84. Sunday should see similar temperatures before a slight cooldown Monday, when the high is expected to be a more seasonal 72 degrees.

Despite the warm weather, Portlanders need to be careful outdoors because of widespread haze. Multnomah, Washington, Clackamas and Columbia counties are under an air quality advisory for smoke until 5 p.m. Monday from wildfires in the region. The National Weather Service advises limiting outdoor activities and keeping children indoors if it is smoky.

If you’re wondering where our October rains are, they could finally make an appearance next weekend, if the longer range forecast models hold.
