“Yellowstone” continues to score huge ratings, and bring Dutton family drama as Season 5 continues with Episode 4, on Sunday (Nov. 27). Titled “Horses in Heaven,” the new episode is described as involving ranching patriarch John Dutton (Kevin Costner) making swift changes at the Capitol.
(“Yellowstone” Season 5, Episode 4 will premiere at 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 27, on the Paramount Network. Don’t have cable? Seasons 1-4 are streaming on Peacock.)
Swift changes? Well, John is now the governor of Montana, so he can try and use his power in whatever way he thinks is best. Although, as the first three episodes of Season 5 (which debuted with two episodes that aired back to back) have shown, John seems to be taking his time, and his main focus appears to be keeping the Dutton’s Yellowstone Ranch intact.
Of course, that’s going to continue to be a challenge, with those big city baddies from Market Equities scheming to turn beautiful Montana land into a teeming development, suitable for the New Yorkers, Californians, and the other out-of-staters that John is determined to keep from bringing their ideas to Montana.
What else is coming up in Episode 4? According to the synopsis, John will receive some advice from Senator Perry (you remember, the former governor, who was advising John that refusing to play the political game will cost him). Oh, and here’s another plot detail that will surprise no one: “The venom between Jamie and Beth reaches a boiling point.”
How much worse can relations between those two get? Beth (Kelly Reilly), John’s opinionated daughter, has already shown she’s willing to crush Jamie (Wes Bentley) beneath her well-shod heel to get him to do what she wants. Jamie, John’s adopted son, has his own conflicting feelings about his political career being interrupted by John making a power play to win the governor’s office.

Other plot strings we’re wondering about: Remember last week, when Beth went after a woman she thought was hitting on Rip (Cole Hauser), a bar brawl broke out, and Beth was arrested? What’s going to happen with Kayce (Luke Grimes), John’s son, and his wife, Monica (Kelsey Asbille), who is still recovering from a car crash which resulted in her losing their baby? And how about the protests at the Native American-operated casino and Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) facing pressure to make some changes of his own?
We’ll find out (or not) in Sunday’s new Season 5 episode of “Yellowstone,” which airs at 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 27, on the Paramount Network.
